A coup d’état is underway in Poland

A coup d’état is underway in Poland, led by Donald Tusk—a German puppet serving as prime minister of a coalition government composed of several disparate political groups, all of which lean toward the left. The European Union’s “progressive elites” no longer even bother to keep up appearances of Democracy. It all begins with Poland—the strongest member state (excluding France, which has already become completely submissive). This process is driven by Germany, with Tusk acting merely as their representative.

In brief, here is what happened on Friday in the centre of Warsaw:

    • On Friday afternoon, police officers began taking control of the Constitutional Tribunal building on al. Szucha by force. The officers justified their presence by citing a report regarding a potential threat to the lives and well-being of the Tribunal’s judges and staff. It should be noted that, apart from security personnel, the Constitutional Tribunal building was already deserted ahead of the weekend.
    • At the same time, Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska—citing her status as the judge with the longest tenure, yet lacking any legal authority to do so—issued orders suspending the duties of the Tribunal’s President, Bogdan Święczkowski, and Vice-President, Bartłomiej Sochański, for a period of one month.
    • Subsequently, a statement appeared on the Constitutional Tribunal’s X profile, reporting the unlawful takeover of the institution’s website. The statement emphasized that Bogdan Święczkowski remains the President of the Tribunal, and Bartłomiej Sochański remains the Vice-President.
    • That evening, amid a major crisis over control of the Tribunal, TK President Bogdan Święczkowski arrived in front of the building. He publicly criticized Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska (who had ordered a one-month suspension of his and Vice-President Bartłomiej Sochański’s duties and assumed interim leadership as the most senior judge), calling her a usurper. He also announced that he would meet President Karol Nawrocki (who interrupted a trip to Senegal and was returning to Poland) and that they would return the next day with “legal” judges to demand entry.  The cancelled visit was very important, as it represented a strong element of Poland’s lobbying efforts to secure permanent membership in the G20 group.
    • There was also a specific incident at a side gate secured with police chains: protesters (including a locksmith and with involvement of PiS MP Mariusz Gosek) cut the chains using an angle grinder. Święczkowski briefly entered the Tribunal grounds, showed police his presidential ID, and stood in front of the police cordon, but he was not allowed into the building. He then withdrew, telling the crowd they should not fight the police and that he would return with the president.
    • Earlier, Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek announced that five requests for the lifting of immunity had been submitted to the Constitutional Tribunal. Four of these concern Bogdan Święczkowski, and one concerns Bartłomiej Sochański. The documents total 224 pages. In addition, 50 volumes of case files were sent to the Tribunal.
    • The President’s immunity can be lifted only by a resolution of the General Assembly of Judges of the Constitutional Tribunal The very same Tribunal whose building Tusk is currently occupying, while surrounded by a police cordon.

In my view, the evident intentions of the Tusk government are as follows:

    • Using their parliamentary majority, they appoint a new composition of the Constitutional Tribunal (thereby, de facto, violating the Constitution of the Republic of Poland).
    • The new, illegally selected composition of the Constitutional Tribunal will convene in the currently occupied Constitutional Tribunal building and strip the incumbent President and Vice-President of the Constitutional Tribunal of their immunity.
    • Subsequently, the new, unlawfully constituted Tribunal will, following deliberation, declare the most recent election for the President of the Republic of Poland unconstitutional; in this way, the Speaker of the Sejm will automatically become the interim President of Poland.
    • The next step could be the arrest and indictment of Karol Nawrocki himself (the current, legally elected President of the Republic of Poland) and both of the current presiding officials of the Constitutional Tribunal (Bogdan Święczkowski, and one concerns Bartłomiej Sochański).
    • The final step would be for Tusk to declare a state of emergency and, in light of this situation, cancel the upcoming parliamentary elections (effectively introducing a Ukrainian-style democracy).
